Giant Pumpkin Festival Volunteer Positions for 2023

We have not had the Giant Pumpkin Festival because of the Covid 19 Pandemic. Now that the Pandemic is almost over, we need volunteers to put this festival on in 2023. There is a lot of planning that goes into this festival and the more volunteers we have the easier and smoother the festival will run. We need people who are hardworking, friendly, honest, and want to make a difference in the community. Single persons and organizations welcome. Once we have enough volunteers, we will start meetings once a month and more as it get closer to the event.

1. Design the layout of the Pumpkin Festival, as where vendor booths will set up, including food trucks needing electrical needs. where kids events will be so that there is a nice flow to the set up of the festival. Need to be able to work with each group so they understand where to set up and must be able to help mark spaces off on the ground for each event. Must check with health Department, City Park Department, city waste department, rental companies. Must be able to help set up and tear down on day of the festival.

2. Vendor booth set-up. We need a group of people to help work with design layout group on where the vendor booths will be set up. Price they will pay, help mark spaces off on the ground as how many will attend. Be prepared to help direct vendors to their spots and help with some set-up if needed, and be available for take down and clean up after the festival

3. Music: Must decide how many groups/bands will be playing and when they will be playing. What equipment they will need or if they will be supplying their own equipment. Must set up a budget for the bands and work with the Design layout group as what is the cost for the band events. Also, must be available on day of event to set up for the Music, be it tents, equipment and tear down after.

4. Giant Pumpkin Boat Race; Must be able to recruit people to do the Giant Pumpkin Boat Race, Determined entry price. Contact giant pumpkin growers and/or if recruited entries will be growing own. Need price for the pumpkins that entries are not growing. Need make sure we have equipment to get pumpkins to festival, equipment to cut and gut pumpkins and equipment for pumpkin waste. Must also plan for cleanup of pumpkins after the event. Need people to get pumpkins in and out of water for before and after race. Must be able to work with the Design group as how many entries you have and how much space you will need for this event. Must find a MC to announce the start and end of the race as well as a play by play of the event. Must work with Design group on trophy for this event.

5. Pumpkin Decorating Activities table for children 3-12; Must be able to work with the Design group on how much space you will need for this event. must be able to decide how many small foam pumpkins you will need. How many tables and chairs will need for this event. Be able to set a budget for supplies/ and get donations of supplies for this event. Need helpers to set up and take down tents, tables, chairs. Also need helpers to help children and clean up each spot as each child leaves with it finished product. Must decide if awards will be handed out for the best, and so forth.

6. Jack-O-Lantern Painting/carving; Must be able to work with the design group on how much space you need for this event. Need people to set up and take down tents, tables, handout and collect pumping carving tools. Make sure you have enough waste barrels for pumpkin piece and guts. And people to clean up between entries and need judges for the event Must work with the City Park Department for bleachers to set finished pumpkins on.

7. Pumpkin bowling. Must be able to work with design group on how much area you need. Must be able to set up the pumpkin bowling set and take down. Must find a farmer/retail business that carry small pumpkins the right size for the bowling event and give a budget for cost. Must set up a schedule of helpers and find them to assist kids on playing and resetting after each child has taken a turn. Must contact CASA for Kids Cash to hand out for prizes to all kids that do this event.

8. Pumpkin Seed Spitting Contest; Must be able to work with the design group on how much area you need for this project. Must be able to set up and take down this event. Set a budget for dry unsalted pumpkin seeds to use for this event. Must set up a schedule for helpers and find them to work this event as handing out seeds, taking names, and marking down the distance of each seed from each participant. Must report the winner and present a trophy at the given time of end of the event.

9. Pumpkin Pie Eating Contest. Must be able to work with the Design group on how much area you need for this event. Must figure out the cost for this event and any budget you will need to run this event. Must work with them on a time on when it will happen. Must work with local retail businesses on getting the pumpkin pies and how many you will need. Need to find out if we need to pay for them or if they will be donated. Do we need signage on the donation for this event. In past we had two groups one for youth and one for adults. Must helpers to get and deliver pies for this event and helpers to set up and clean up between groups and tear down after. Need a MC for play by play as the pies are being eaten. Need to know if we need equipment for the MC.

10. Pumpkin Bean Bag Toss: Must be able to work with the Design group on how much area you need for this event. Need to be to set up and take down this event. Must set up a budget for this event for Straw bales and be able to get them to the event and take down after this event. Must work with CASA on Kids Cash as prizes for this event. Also, must find helper and set up a schedule for them to help kids with this event and hand out kids cash to each participant.

11. Bouncy Houses; Must be able to work with the Design group on how much area you need for this event. Contact personal that run the Bouncy Houses and find out if they need helpers for set up, take down and help run, and make up a schedule for them to work this event. If needed must make a budget for running this event.
